⚔️ Combat System

Basic Combat Mechanics

Arcane Odyssey features a dynamic action combat system with multiple attack types:

Magic Attacks Primary damage source for mages. Uses Q, E, R, F keybinds for different spells
Weapon Attacks Left-click for basic attacks, hold for charged attacks. Right-click for skills
Fighting Styles Unarmed combat techniques. Each style has unique movesets
Blocking Hold right-click (when unarmed) to block. Reduces damage by 50%
Dodging Double-tap WASD keys to dash. Grants brief invulnerability frames
Damage Calculation: Base damage × (1 + Power/100) × Multipliers × (1 - Defense/200)

Status Effects in Combat

Applying status effects can drastically increase your damage output through synergies:

  • Burning: DoT effect, applies Charred status
  • Soaked: Increases lightning damage by 40%
  • Frozen: Slows movement, vulnerable to shatter
  • Petrified: Immobilizes target, +25% damage taken
  • Bleeding: DoT effect from weapons

🔮 Magic System

Magic Categories

Magics are divided into three tiers:

Base Magics 19 starter magics available to all players (Fire, Water, Lightning, etc.)
Lost Magics 11 rare magics with enhanced properties (Aether, Aethereal Flame, etc.)
Ancient Magics Legendary magics with unique mechanics (coming in future updates)

Magic Stats

Each magic has four multiplier stats:

  • Damage: Base damage output multiplier
  • Speed: Projectile velocity and cast speed
  • Size: AoE and hitbox size
  • Destruction: Environmental damage to structures
Magic Imbuement: Warriors and Conjurers can imbue weapons with magic for hybrid damage!

Mind System (New in Full Release)

Mind stat determines how many abilities you can have equipped:

  • Mind 1: 3 abilities
  • Mind 2: 4 abilities
  • Mind 3+: 5 abilities

📊 Stats & Attributes

Primary Stats

Magic Increases magic damage and unlocks more magic slots
Strength Increases weapon damage and unlocks fighting style skills
Vitality Increases max health and unlocking defensive abilities
Weapons Allows equipping more weapons simultaneously (1-3 weapons)

Derived Stats

Power From gear. Increases damage output
Defense From gear. Reduces incoming damage
Agility From gear. Increases movement and attack speed
Intensity From gear. Strengthens status effects
Insanity From Dark Sea exposure. High insanity grants bonuses but risks

Level Cap

Current max level: 125 (Full Release)

You gain 2 stat points per level, totaling 250 points at max level.

💰 Economy & Currency

Galleons (Primary Currency)

Used for purchasing items, ships, and services:

  • Quest rewards
  • Selling cargo and treasure
  • Sinking enemy ships
  • Defeating bounty targets

Sealed Chests

Special currency for exclusive items:

  • Obtained from treasure hunting
  • Dark Sea expeditions
  • Boss drops

Trading System

Player-to-player trading allows exchange of:

  • Gear and accessories
  • Reagents and materials
  • Galleons
  • Sealed chests
Tip: Rare items can be worth millions of galleons. Check market prices before trading!

Ship & Naval Combat

Ship Types

Rowboat Starter ship. Small, fast, no cargo
Sailboat Basic sailing ship. Moderate speed and cargo
Caravel Fast merchant ship. Good cargo capacity
Ketch Balanced combat ship with decent firepower
Brig Military warship. High durability and cannon slots

Ship Parts

Customize your ship with 6 part slots:

  • Hull: Affects durability and turning
  • Sails: Determines speed
  • Deck: Visual customization
  • Cannons: Firepower upgrade
  • Ram: Ramming damage
  • Quartermasters: Special bonuses

Naval Combat Mechanics

  • Aim cannons with mouse, fire with left-click
  • Target enemy cannons to disable them
  • Ram damaged ships to deal massive damage
  • Board enemy ships for player combat

🛡️ Gear & Equipment

Armor Slots

Equip up to 6 armor pieces:

  • Helmet
  • Chestplate
  • Leggings
  • Boots
  • 2× Accessory slots (amulets, rings, etc.)

Gear Rarities

Common Basic stats, easy to find
Uncommon Slightly enhanced stats
Rare Good stats with special effects
Legendary Powerful effects and high stats
Exotic Unique items with special mechanics

Enchantments

Apply enchantments to gear for bonus effects:

  • Power Enchants: Increase damage output
  • Defense Enchants: Reduce damage taken
  • Agility Enchants: Boost speed and attack rate
  • Intensity Enchants: Amplify status effects

Reputation & Renown

Reputation Types

Hero Gained by defeating criminals. Unlocks Navy quests
Villain Gained by committing crimes. Unlocks Assassin quests
Neutral Balanced reputation. Access to both sides

Renown System

Renown measures your overall fame and power:

  • Increases with level, bounty, reputation
  • Affects NPC reactions and quest availability
  • High renown attracts bounty hunters
  • Fame titles unlock at certain thresholds

Fame Levels

  • Unknown (0-100 Renown)
  • Known (101-1000)
  • Famed (1001-5000)
  • Renowned (5001-10000)
  • Legendary (10000+)

🌑 Dark Sea Mechanics

What is the Dark Sea?

A dangerous endgame area with increased risks and rewards:

  • Constant lightning storms
  • Atlantean enemies
  • Rare treasure and sealed chests
  • Insanity mechanic increasing in severity

Insanity Levels

Layer 1 Minor visual effects. Slight stat boost
Layer 2 Moderate hallucinations. Better loot
Layer 3+ Severe effects. Highest tier rewards but extremely dangerous
Warning: Death in Dark Sea results in permanent loss of sealed chests and cargo!

Dark Sea Rewards

  • Exotic gear with unique stats
  • Modified enchants (stronger than normal)
  • Rare reagents and materials
  • Lost spells and techniques
